You guys, oh my god.
This prototype is wearing bigger wheels and tires, upgraded brake rotors and calipers, enhanced bodywork, and quad exhaust tips – all the telltale signs of something more potent and capable. The performance version of Dearborn’s midsize sedan is tipped to pack a version of the company’s 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6. That’s anticipated to channel upwards of 300 horsepower to all four-wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission, but we can hold out hope that maybe, just maybe, Ford will offer a three-pedal manual.

I’d rock a Fusion ST. Shame it would probably be $35k here in Canada.

It’s ok, I think it’s cool, too.

I’d even be happy with the 2.3 EB, truth be told.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:19 |

That’s actually a good price. That’s how much I’d expect it to be in the States as well. A decently equipped Fusion SE with the 2.0 and AWD is right around $30K.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:19 |

It’s about damn time they offered a powered up Fusion.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:20 |

the A6, but the size of an A4, either way, bound to be more reliable or at the least less expensive to fix.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:20 |

Yeah, I’d be good with that. Do they already make the Fusion with the 3.5EB? I haven’t kept up much, but I drove that engine in the Flex AWD and enjoyed it.

Highest engine on the Fusion is the 2.0. You have to go to the MKZ to get the 3.5 or 3.7.
Which is why I think the 2.7 might be reserved for the MKZ and the Fusion gets the 2.3. Either way, it’d be a good step up from the current 2.0. Especially with the better brakes and other go-fast bits.

![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:28 |

Do you call it ST or SHO? Would be a more fitting tribute to the original SHO than the bloated whale that is the current Taurus.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:28 |

Huh, you’re right. Must be the base model then.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:29 |

I don’t think there’s any official naming scheme yet. Until they officially retire the Taurus SHO though, I think it’s probably safe to call it an ST.

I don’t think the MKZ would get a 2.7 EcoBoost.
I think the 2.3 is perfect powerwise it’s right on.

Recommend.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:32 |

Why wouldn’t the MKZ? It has two V6 options right now and the Ford Edge/Lincoln MKX both offer the 2.7 V6 in their top trim, and those vehicles just moved to the CD4 architecture.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:36 |

Meh. Too big and heavy for a sporty version.

So you hate all AMG, M’s and S/RS’s then, right? Because those all weigh over 3,000lbs as well.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:42 |

Maybe.. just maybe Ford was spying on Oppo and heard us crying about the ecoboostang needing a 4-door version - Fusion ST. Where do we claim our royalty checks?!
Also if we have the fusion ST and FoST sporting ecoboost engines why isn’t the ecoboosted mustang an ST trim? Just saying..
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:44 |
|
Well aren’t those more powerful?
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:45 |

They also cost a helluva lot more.
I just think the idea that something is “too heavy” to have a sport version made of it to be asinine.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:49 |

Yeah but it's got 75 more hp. That's gotta be worth something!
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:50 |

I don’t ‘hate’ anything. I just like my sporty cars light, agile and compact. The Fusion is a boat. I’m sure it’ll be a nice highway cruiser though, just like M5s and the like.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:53 |

I kept that in there for you guys. Blind hope is the best hope obviously.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 14:53 |

Both of the current ST’s are manual only. Is the Fusion still closely tied with the Mondeo? If there is a European equivalent, then manual would be likely.
I want to believe.

Need vs benefit
MKZ has 1 V6 right now and it’s not Turbo, it’s the N/A 3.7L.
Current engine lineup for EcoBoosts:
Fusion 2.0L: 240 hp 270 torque
Mustang 2.3L: 310 hp 320 torque (+70 and +50)
Edge 2.7L: 315 hp 350 torque (+75 and +80)
MKX 2.7L: 335 hp 380 torque (+95 and +110)
F-150 2.7L: 325 hp 375 torque (+85 and +105)
Obviously the most powerful tune/set up would be the MKX, which is already set up for all wheel drive.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll go for it. I mean the Focus ST had a jump almost that large in power and maybe they don’t want to setup the 2.3L for AWD, where as the MKX already is. I just thought it would be too big of a jump in power.
Good news is if they put the Edge tune on it, I guarantee you can re-tune it to the MKX spec
![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:04 |
|
The MKZ is already set up for AWD as well. Again, I don’t see any reason to limit the 2.7 to the MKX only and not also the MKZ.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:04 |
|
2.0 (Fusion) 240/270
2.3 (Mustang) is 310/320 hp/tq
2.7 (F150) is 325/375
3.5 (Taurus SHO) is 365/350
So even the 2.3l would be a decent step up, giving performance probably in the ballpark of the Mustang Ecoboost or Accord/Camry V6 (3500lbs/5.5ish 0-60time).
![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:10 |
|
1 very simple reason
They don’t give a crap about performance on the MKZ. The performance it has is basically a coincidence, it’s not anywhere near the top 5 of their priority list for MKZ. I mean, it’s surprisingly quick and great for what it has but still not worth upgrading for them. They don’t want that for Lincoln.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:10 |

The Fusion is much closer in size to the A6 than the A4.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:12 |

Fusion 2.0L: 240 hp 270 torque
Mustang 2.3L: 310 hp 320 torque (+70 and +50)
Edge 2.7L: 315 hp 350 torque (+75 and +80)
MKX 2.7L: 335 hp 380 torque (+95 and +110)
F-150 2.7L: 325 hp 375 torque (+85 and +105)
I’d be happy as hell if they put in the 2.7 with the max MKX tune on it. (not that you couldn’t tune the edge spec up to MKX if you wanted). I just have a feeling it’s too extreme of an option. I hope they prove me wrong.

![]() 09/02/2015 at 15:28 |

I don’t think they would call it the Fusion ST though. Wouldn’t it just be a new Fusion Sport? Or I guess it’s going to be more performance oriented that the 1.5 gen Fusion Sport? ST just doesn’t seem like the right trim name for it. BRING BACK SVT!
Either way, I’m excited for it.

As a current Fusion owner (1.6 Turbo Auto) I approve of this wholeheartedly. I LOVE my fusion it’s a fantastic everyday family car but another 125hp and a metric shit ton of torque would be a fucking blast. Where do I sign?
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:52 |

“six speed automatic transmission”
Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.
Focus RS, please.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:52 |

335hp and 380tq would be amazeballs with a six-speed manual and AWD. Around $35k new, I’m buying.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:54 |
|
there’s about a .001% chance this thing comes in manual.
I get the other ST’s are, but I highly doubt these won’t be mated to auto’s.
That being said it would be really distinctive in it’s category
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:54 |
|
The Fusion 2.0 with AWD is already at or near the top of the vehicles I want to procure after I’m done with my current one. Adding a performance trim to it is just unfair. Unfair I tells ya!
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:55 |
|
$35k CAD would be cheap, around $26k USD right now. No way it’s that cheap, and Canada usually gets screwed with car prices, so if it winds up around $35k USD, it’ll be probably $45k CAD.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 16:59 |
|
Exactly 0% chance of that happening. I don’t think you’ll ever see a V6 being offered again in the Fusion. I highly doubt we’ll see the 2.7L V6 in this ST version of the Fusion.
![]() 09/02/2015 at 17:02 |

I wanted the 2.0 when I got mine but there was none in the configuration I wanted with the 2.0 in western Canada.
Ever since I got the car I told myself this car is a V6 away from being perfect. Now if that happens I might have to upgrade.

Big and heavy? the Fusion FWD I-4 weighs 3300 lbs. One of the lightest in its segment. The AWD titatnium weighs 3700lbs. Even my Taurus SHO that weighs 4400lbs still puts in a 13.7 quarter mile time and is competent (in its class) around the track. A flat torque curve and enough power will make a car fast, regardless of its bulk.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 09:50 |
|
You’re not wrong. However, it’s too big and heavy to be agile, imho. Something the Fiesta ST and to a lesser extent the Focus ST are. Besides, fast does not equal sporty, at all. I have no doubt it’ll be a great highway cruiser though.
![]() 09/10/2015 at 10:37 |
|
Lets review the facts:
Fiesta ST - Power 197, Weight 2,720lbs, 205 series tires. 61/39 weight distribution
Focus ST- Power 252, Weight 3223, 235 series tires. 60/40
Now on to my speculation,
Fusion “Sport” - Power 335, Weight Est. 3800lbs, 255 series tires, Weight distribution 59/41 (Fusion Titanium AWD, probably similar for the Sport)
I drove a Fusion for the past 2 years and I can tell you that the suspension is very competent. at a scant 75lbs heavier than the Focus ST, with a much lower center of gravity and little body roll. granted the sport probably will not get a manual and people will poo-poo the car for that, but the take rate on the 13-14 1.5l with the stick was less than half a percent, and the 6F35 is a surprisingly competent transmission. This car will be a great autocross/track car/Daily Driver.

“upwards of 300 horsepower”? No. The 2.3 is good for 320+, so this Fusion RS should be comfortably over 350. Tune to about 425 hp, 450 lbs-ft and away we go.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 06:47 |
|
We don’t know what performance moniker it’s going to be given, so I don’t think it’ll be as highly tuned as it is in the Focus RS.
Regardless, we just don’t know. We don’t even know if it’ll use the 2.3 or the 2.7.
![]() 09/11/2015 at 15:47 |
|
2.3 would be disappointing in a car that size, when the 2.7 has so much more potential. But with the engine mounted sideways I might be dreaming.
